About
Shift to Learn is dedicated to enhancing the capacities of leaders and practitioners in advancing primary prevention efforts to stop the perpetration of violence. Shift to Learn is powered by Shift: The Project to End Domestic Violence, a primary prevention research initiative located in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary. This unique initiative is led by Lana Wells, the Brenda Strafford Chair in the Prevention of Domestic Violence. The purpose of Shift is to empower others to create the social conditions that will stop the perpetration of violence before it starts. The Shift to Learn online platform is a key part of our primary prevention approach.
We currently offer a comprehensive set of five online modules targeting prevention of violence. They are designed to advance a shared understanding of the value of primary prevention, the root causes and drivers of the perpetration of violence, the purpose and role of violence prevention policies and legislation to stop perpetration and how organizations, governments and individuals can disrupt violence and discrimination in their own spheres of influence.
