About

Shift to Learn is an online learning platform dedicated to enhancing the capacities of leaders and practitioners to advance primary prevention efforts and stop the perpetration of violence.

Shift to Learn was originally developed through Shift: The Project to End Domestic Violence, a primary prevention research initiative in the Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary. This work was supported through Silver Gummy Foundation funding and university resources with the intention to scale and sustain the impact of prevention efforts beyond the university. Shift to Learn now operates as an independent initiative and is not managed by or affiliated with the University of Calgary.

The platform builds on years of research and practice led by Shift: The Project to End Domestic Violence, including the work of Lana Wells, Brenda Strafford Chair in the Prevention of Domestic Violence, whose leadership has advanced primary prevention approaches across Canada and beyond.

Shift to Learn currently offers a comprehensive set of online modules focused on the prevention of violence. These modules are designed to support a shared understanding of the value of primary prevention, the root causes and drivers of violence, the role of policy and legislation, and the ways organizations, governments, and individuals can take action to disrupt violence and discrimination within their spheres of influence.
